Fire Proof Paint for Wood

Fire

What are the rules

If your building is
over 30 square metres or
within 1m from the boundary and over 15 square metres - then it falls into the Building Control category of needing Class O fire resistance.

How do I achieve Class O Resistance

You will need to apply
2 coats of Primer

1 Coat of Top Coat

What is Fire Proof Paint

Fire retardant paints play a vital role in improving wood's fire resistance. These specialized paints contain chemicals that react to heat, slowing down the spread of fire and delaying ignition.

Fire-resistant coatings do not eliminate flames, but they will slow the rate at which they cause damage. Thankfully, this protection can last hours. For example, the flame-resistant paint from Flame Seal has a rating for protection for up to two hours, ensuring occupants have ample time to evacuate

What can I put on wood to make it fireproof?

Intumescent coatings are often regarded as a smart and effective approach to fireproofing substrates including wood. You can use these paints both externally and internally, to achieve the class 0 rating that is required for building control.

What is CLASS 0
Fire Protection?

A Class 0 fire rating in the UK building regulations signifies a high level of fire resistance for materials used in walls and ceilings, specifically for surface spread of flame and heat release. It indicates a material's ability to resist the spread of fire and limit the amount of heat released during combustion. This rating is achieved through compliance with specific British Standards tests, notably BS 476 Parts 6 and 7
